Catching the Light

Yesterday the forecast was for rain - and when we saw the sun peeking out from behind the clouds, we quickly gathered camera, tripod, jackets, snacks and water and headed out.  It was chilly, with quite a wind blowing, but sunshine is always a good time to hunt up some photos.

We were headed for  Birch Bay - taking the long way around - and came across this flooded field.

Small birch trees have grown in this wet site - it is dry most of the year, but after the heavy rains we've been having, it floods and makes a pretty pond, especially pretty in the sunlight.

The pond is on both sides of a long driveway

A pile of rocks in one of the ponds

Across the driveway- the birch trees reflected in the rippled water

Some mallard ducks were swimming by - the splash in the back of the pond is a pair of males having a bit of a dispute (click to enlarge photo for detail)

They chased each other back and forth

Finally - one was victorious and things returned to normal
 Reflections in the pond

A little farther along there was a Barrow Golden Eye duck and some of her chicks.  They have grown fast and are now "teenagers",  and seem to need their sleep.

 Naptime for everyone

What a beautiful series of shots! Love, love, love the reflections of the birch trees in the water! And the great photos of the ducks. The male mallard's green head is amazing. So nice to see the golden eye chicks, too! xx

You are one fantastic photographer. These are wonderful. The ducks have returned to our little pond. There is a small island in the middle which I have named duck island, because every year they have a nest there. Love when the babies are born.
